WHY?! - robert, 03/12/2005, 00:15

Someone PLEASE tell me why
this happens. Sometimes I come to my Thinkpad 240 and find half the sceen is black. It rarely happens, but when it does, gets me in a really bad mood. In the left hand side you can still move the cursor around a bit before that jams too. If I telnet into it, it very slowly accepts my login details then hangs. The fan goes full pelt so it's using 100% CPU. No services respond quick enough to be usable. Pstools does not work. My only option is to turn the thing off. Some initial thoughts were perhaps the VNC service is screwing up somehow. The crash only happens when waking the screen up after it's blanked. If anyone knows what causes this, or rather, how to stop it ever happening, please let me
know immediately.

The S5600 is cheaper than the F11 and has a 10x optical zoom. It is 1MP lower resolution than the F11, though. I'm very happy with it so far, it's a great camera. I've also managed to do the bulk of my Christmas shopping which is great. I've got my train tickets now booked for travelling to Edinburgh for new year. I looked a few weeks ago and the cheapest ticket was a whopping £27.50 with YPR! I checked today and the price was back down to the normal Apex of £19.50. Phew! I decided to grab them while they were still that price. Work is still plodding on as usual. Not a lot to report on other than some very silly goings on such as a user making a HUGE fuss over a call, calling to chase every 15 mins demanding something be done to fix his MS Word which was refusing to open. I could only laugh when I saw the final comment in the call log:
We have remote controlled and found that word was minimized. We maximized word and got linda to test. All ok. Ok to close call.
It also caused me to frown and think once again that if we had ...
